Robert Hollenbach
Robert Hollenbach remembers his years of volunteering at Camphill Village Kimberton Hills with warmth and affection. “I just liked the way of life – the way people living there were cared for”. Robert developed a special friendship with villager Herbert Wolf, making trips, sometimes to Philadelphia, where Herbert would enjoy getting a hoagie, and the two would have long conversations together.
Robert Hollenbach was born in 1928 in Royersford, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Royersford High School in 1946 and after a year of working in Philadelphia was offered a position at the Jones Motor Company in Spring City, Pennsylvania as manager of traffic. Robert worked at Jones Motor Company for thirty-five years, and for another thirteen years he was self-employed, auditing freight bills on a free-lance basis. He started volunteering at Camphill Village Kimberton Hills in 2001, after his wife passed away, and continued until around 2012. During his years of volunteer service, he was asked to serve on the Camphill Village Kimberton Hills board of directors, which he did. “I found it interesting”, he reported.
In December, 2023, Development Director Robert Martin called on Robert Hollenbach at his home in Royersford. Later, Karen Arthur, Camphill Kimberton long-term coworker who remembered Robert Hollenbach well from his years of volunteering, visited also. Karen brought Robert an album of photographs of people he remembered. The emotional connection with Camphill Village Kimberton Hills remains strong.
