Amy Klein

Amy came to Kimberton Hills in June of 1974 when she was nineteen, a determined young woman with a love for small furry animals. Amy and her family were in distress as they had not been able to find a place in their home state, so the family was delighted to find the new Camphill community in Pennsylvania that might welcome a unique individual such as herself; all worked out and she arrived.

Amy became a best friend of Herta Hoy, accompanying her from Kepler to Martin’s House and then to Helios where Amy now lives with Felicity, John, Ted, Michael, and others.  Over the years Amy’s parents supported the Community of Kimberton Hills by holding helpful responsibilities on the Board and Human Concerns Committee. They, in their dedication to their daughter Amy and to Kimberton Hills, went the ‘extra mile’ again and again. Nearly fifty years on, Amy is still living in Kimberton Hills with her collection of furry pets and the friends who love her.

Important years were when I was with Herta – and we went out a lot. I now get to see my brother more because he moved nearby. I like animals and wildlife. I’m interested in foxes. I really like going to the bakery with Michael Mains and he jokes with me. I don’t like rudeness! I don’t like to be told what to do, so I just walk away. I like to go to stores and shop. Eva is my friend and gave me a big hug. And Sue Weicheld, and Eva Cerolini and her son Joseph: I work with them on Thursdays. I like working at Martins House with Sumin—she likes to joke around and notices when I’m not feeling well. She’ll say, ‘just rest.’ I used to work with Martha and now visit her home; she is really nice. It was hard when my folks died, but my sister-in-law came.
